Salomon XT-EVO: A Sharper Take on the XT-6
Published 23 October 2026

The XT-EVO is recognisably Salomon, but it has a different attitude. The layered upper looks sharper and more sculpted, with a racing influence that pushes the familiar trail-shoe shape further into statement-sneaker territory.
If you like the XT-6 but want something with a little more edge, this is the interesting part of the range. The question is which version would actually fit your wardrobe.
What’s changed?
The main change is upstairs. Kith’s launch announcement describes a racing-inspired upper made from liquid rubber and breathable mesh, paired with XT-6 tooling. That is a useful way to understand the EVO: a familiar foundation with a different visual treatment.
The cage gives the upper a more graphic appearance. Rather than reading as a collection of small overlays, it creates a stronger shape around the mesh. To our eyes, that makes the shoe feel more deliberate and slightly less like something borrowed straight from a trail-running kit.
That is also what might divide people. If you like Salomon because its shoes look functional and understated, the EVO could feel overworked. If you enjoy the technical details as part of an outfit, those same lines are the attraction.
XT-EVO or XT-6?
We would still choose the XT-6 for a quieter everyday look. The EVO is the one we would consider when the shoe is meant to be noticed.
That does not mean you need a completely different wardrobe. Both make sense alongside relaxed trousers and outdoor-influenced layers. With the EVO, though, we would keep the surrounding outfit simpler so the construction has room to stand out.
We would not replace a pair of XT-6s just because the EVO is newer. The reason to choose it is that you prefer the upper. Shared tooling also does not establish identical fit: we have not wear-tested the EVO, so this is a design-led first look rather than an on-foot review.
Which colourway would we choose?
Alloy / Castlerock / FTW Silver — our pick
This is the version we would start with. The grey and silver palette makes the layers easier to read without adding a strong colour clash.
We would pair it with washed black denim, a grey sweatshirt and a charcoal jacket. It also gives you room to bring colour in elsewhere. For us, it offers the best balance between showing off the design and being easy to wear.
Black / Black / Asphalt — the easiest to work into a wardrobe
The black version turns down the contrast and lets the silhouette do more of the work. It is our choice if your usual rotation is black trousers, dark denim and muted outerwear.
We would avoid making every part of the outfit equally shiny or technical. A cotton overshirt or a textured knit would give the shoe something softer to sit against.
Black / Fiery Red / White — the statement option
The red version is the one we would choose for a stronger racing look. It asks more of the outfit, but that is the point.
Keep the rest simple: dark trousers, a plain top and perhaps one small red detail elsewhere. We would let the shoe carry the colour rather than trying to match an entire outfit to it.
How we would wear it

With denim: choose a relaxed straight leg with a hem that meets the top of the shoe. A little overlap works; enough fabric to hide the whole upper defeats the reason for choosing the EVO.
With technical trousers: try a clean nylon pair and a simple fleece or shell. You do not need utility pockets, straps and visible branding on every layer.
With everyday basics: loose trousers, a plain T-shirt and an overshirt are enough. The most useful test is whether you like the shoe with clothes you already own.
Our take
The XT-EVO makes sense as a more expressive option alongside the XT-6. We like the grey and silver version most because it shows the construction clearly while leaving the rest of the outfit open.
At £175 on Salomon’s UK site when checked on 23 October 2026, it is a considered purchase. But the main decision here is style: choose the EVO because you want those sharper lines, rather than treating it as an automatic upgrade.
