Which Salomon Is Worth Your Money in 2026? XT-6 vs XT-Whisper vs ACS Pro
Published 26 August 2026

The XT-6, XT-Whisper and ACS Pro share Salomon’s technical DNA, but they suit very different buyers.
The XT-6 is the dependable all-rounder, the XT-Whisper is lighter and more fashion-led, while the ACS Pro offers the boldest technical design. Here is how I would choose between them—and when each is worth buying.
Quick comparison

Salomon XT-6

Best all-rounder
If you are buying your first pair of Salomons, the XT-6 is the safest choice.
Its sleek technical design is distinctive without being difficult to wear. It works with jeans, cargos, joggers, leggings and shorts, while the huge selection of colourways makes it easy to find one that suits your wardrobe.
The cushioning is firm rather than soft, but the stable chassis and supportive upper make it a strong everyday shoe. Some people find it excellent for long walks and uneven streets, while others find the deep lugs and dense sole slightly hard on smooth pavements.
The regular XT-6 isn’t waterproof, although it can handle light rain. Choose the GORE-TEX version if you need more protection, but expect it to feel warmer and less breathable.
For sizing, stick to your usual size if you have normal or narrow feet. Consider half a size up if your feet are slightly wide.
Pros
Easiest Salomon to style
Stable and supportive
Lots of colourways
Good breathability
Frequently available in sales
Cons
Narrow fit
Firm cushioning
Regular version isn’t waterproof
Expensive at full price
More common than the other two
Is it worth buying?
Yes. The XT-6 offers the best overall balance of style, comfort and versatility.
The £165 retail price is acceptable if you want a specific colourway, but I would normally wait for a discount. Below £120, it feels like money well spent.
Salomon XT-Whisper

Best fashion choice
The XT-Whisper is the lightest and most fashion-focused option.
At approximately 290g, it is around 75g lighter per shoe than the XT-6. It feels streamlined on foot but still provides the firm, stable support associated with Salomon.
Its flowing upper looks less traditionally gorpcore and works particularly well in silver, pink, cream and brown. These playful colourways give it a softer appearance than the XT-6 or ACS Pro.
The XT-Whisper works well with relaxed jeans, leggings, skirts, shorts and minimal sportswear. Despite its trail heritage, I see the current version primarily as a lifestyle sneaker rather than a serious modern running shoe.
The breathable mesh is best suited to spring, summer and dry weather. It can survive occasional light rain, but it offers little protection during prolonged wet conditions.
Start with your usual size, or try half a size larger if you prefer more room.
Pros
Lightest of the three
Fresh, fashion-forward design
Good ventilation
Distinctive colourways
Lower retail price
Cons
Limited rain protection
Light colourways show dirt
Less versatile than the XT-6
Still relatively firm underfoot
Is it worth buying?
Yes—especially if fashion matters more to you than rugged performance.
At around £140, it offers better value at retail than the other two. Below £110, it is a strong purchase; below £100, it is an excellent deal.
Salomon ACS Pro

Best statement design
The ACS Pro is the boldest and most technical-looking model.
Its external cage, open mesh panels and substantial chassis give it much more visual weight than the XT-6 or XT-Whisper. It looks particularly good with wide-leg jeans, baggy cargos, technical trousers and oversized outerwear.
Underfoot, the Agile Chassis System and dual-density EVA midsole provide strong stability and support. The regular version also has good ventilation, although the substantial construction makes it heavier and more rigid than the other two.
The standard ACS Pro isn’t fully waterproof. For rainy UK winters, the ACS Pro GORE-TEX is the better option, but it is heavier and may feel warm indoors.
Sizing opinions vary. Start with your usual size, but consider half a size up if the external cage feels tight across the forefoot.
Pros
Strongest statement design
Excellent stability
Supportive construction
Good ventilation
Works well with wider trousers
GORE-TEX option for winter
Cons
Heaviest of the three
Highest retail price
Less versatile
Firm and relatively rigid
Harder to clean
Is it worth buying?
Only if you specifically love its technical design—or find a good discount.
At around £185, it is difficult to recommend to an average buyer. Below £135, it becomes much more appealing; around £120 is a genuinely good deal.
Final verdict
Choose the XT-6 if you want the safest and most versatile option. It is the best first Salomon and my overall winner.
Choose the XT-Whisper if you want something lighter, fresher and more fashion-led. It also offers the best value at retail.
Choose the ACS Pro if you want a bold technical sneaker and regularly wear wide or oversized clothing.
